The Tag Game

Posted on Nov 28th, 2007 by Pelle : focusing Pelle
Ok, so it's a silly game, and I normally don't like chain letters and such, but this one's actually fun! Here are the rules of the game:

1. Link to the person who tagged you
(I was tagged by ThePixellator and Tim)

2. Post these rules on your blog

3. List seven random or weird facts about yourself

4. Tag seven people and include links to their blogs

5. Let each person know they have been tagged by writing on their shout-out wall.

Here is my list of weird/random facts:

1) I can roll my tongue together and whistle. No, not my lips, nor do I use any fingers. Tongue only.
2) I grew up for several years in a desert town in the United Arab Emirates.
3) When I was a small kid I apparently believed I could walk on water, possibly inspired by a biblical passage? :) My dad saved me at the last minute by grabbing my hair.
4) I can ride a bike almost as well on snow and ice as on a dry surface.
5) My feet are so wide that most regular shoes are uncomfortable.
6) When I went to Paris, I wasn't impressed by it at all, even though you always hear that it's such an amazing city.
7) Not being quite satisfied by my original near-drowning experience as a kid, I decided to take a swim on my own in the middle of the night when I was 19. I swam out to a wooden raft about 150 feet out, but after resting there for a while I was so cold and stiff that I almost didn't make it back. I did make it though, luckily enough, so that I can tell the world about these weird facts :P

Here are the people I've tagged:

Thanks for playing, Pelle! This is an incredibly fun way to get to know one another and find new friends. Try Zappos.com for special shoe widths!

In Seattle, on the Puget Sound, when you decide to take a swim in the middle of the night in the summer, there are phosphorescent “things” in the water. It's magical the way the water lights up around you as you swim.

Them big feet didn't help ya swim? So we are brothers in desert living. We can pretends we’re Sufi’s together someday!

The bike on snow and ice thing is truly interesting, and IMO counts as one of those just weird things. Perhaps some day it will serve you if you are trapped in the arctic with no way out but a bike. Then again, with those big feet maybe the penguins will take you in as a big brother.

I've heard similar opinion about Paris.

When I was a kid and “Superman the Movie” came out, oh, how I wanted to fly. And it's really hard to say that at moments -many of them -I didn't truly believe that I could or would be able to if I just did it right. Then some story started going around that as a result of the movie's influence a boy somewhere thought he could fly and jumped off a roof and died. Even at the time I thought “Oh, I'd never do that” rght along with “I'm sure glad I heard that.” My son just the other day asked me to do something like put him on the roof so he could fly … Yikes! … Forgive and thank you dad for the powerful burst of love that made him grab your hair!

Hey, Pelle, I can roll my tongue and whistle through it too! Can you whistle tunes? Seems like I used to be able to do that but now my whistle is limited to just a 2 - 3 note range. I still enjoy how tongue-whistling really perplexes our two cats …

I've also known several other people who were similarly un-impressed with Paris. A literature professor (and Marcel Proust scholar) I once knew described it as a dreary gray city with lots of big gray buildings. Maybe it's magical only if it's April and you're in love …?

Cheers,
Mary

I tried the tongue whistling thing as I can't do the ordinary kind. All I got was a slightly musical raspberry and a frantic dog!!

Biking on snow and ice. Many years ago, I could. I would assume I could still, but can't think of why that would happen. Driving in same conditions is similar. Learning to feel the machine like your own body. The question is, can you tango in snow and ice?
